From idea to course

Developing a successful micro-credential or short course involves much more than deciding what to teach. It starts with understanding learners and their needs, continues through collaboration with stakeholders and thoughtful course design, and ends with delivery, evaluation and continuous improvement.

The EMERGE Toolbox guides you through this process step by step. As you work through the framework, you will gradually develop the key elements of your course, including a learner profile, a course blueprint, a storyboard, learning activities, assessment methods, learner support strategies and an evaluation plan.

The framework provides practical guidance, templates and examples that can be adapted to different institutions, disciplines and national contexts. Its purpose is not to prescribe a single way of designing courses, but to support you in making informed design choices and developing a course that is relevant, inclusive and ready to be implemented.

Every course is different, but the journey from idea to implementation follows many of the same principles. The EMERGE Toolbox supports you through each stage, helping you make informed design decisions and gradually build a course that is ready to be piloted, delivered and continuously improved. Use the framework as a guide throughout your course development journey, adapting the tools, methods and templates to your own learners, institution and context.
